Painting in Savage MD

This week, Hallco Enterprises began a 3-4 day interior project with a few minor exterior touch-ups for an existing client in Savage near Laurel, Maryland. We were hired to removed wallpaper from the 1960s, select a color that updated their living room after the paper was removed and freshen up the woodwork. We then painted a few ceilings that were damaged by water. The exterior work consisted of thorough sanding of the entry railings and post to remove old and cracking paint. The products used for the interior were Sherwin-Williams Super Paint and Duration.

If you live in or around Savage, Columbia or Howard County, Hallco Enterprises would be happy to meet and discuss your next painting and home repair needs.

Hallco Enterprises Rockville Painting Project

Hallco Enterprises was just awared the contract to repaint the exterior trim of a home in Rockville for a first-time user of our services. The home is around 8 years old, and this will be the first major repaint on the wood surfaces.

The client called us at the right time, as most of the exposed trim only needs one quality finish, instead of two full coats. If he would have waited 2-3 more years, 2 coats would have been necessary. We also recommended using Benjamin Moore's Aura as the finish product which is the top of the line product for interior and exterior surfaces. It provides better color retention and applies much thicker than your typical "builder's grade."

If you live in and around the Rockville Maryland area and need your house painted, Hallco enterprises is the most professional paint contractor in Montgomery County. We are also very competitve in our pricing, which makes it a good "buy" when you decide on us for your house painting needs. We are here to serve you, and we look forward to hearing from you soon!

Hallco Painting in Brookeville MD

A few weeks ago, Hallco Enterprises was hired to do a few small jobs on the exterior of a home off of the 97 in Brookeville. The customer had a deck that was almost a year old and needed to be stained and sealed before it began to discolor. The basement level of their home was also a bright white color that did not match their current hunter green siding. Hallco matched the color of the siding perfectly for the basement "stucco" and also selected a natural oak finish from Sikkens to seal the deck. The project took just two days with two of our in-house painters.

After the painting and staining project was completed, the owners were so thrilled with the results that they wanted us back to paint their "barn-style" shed to match the house. The shed was currently white and began to standout like sore thumb. So, we came back and painted the barn/shed green, to match the house.

Hallco Enterprises strives to be the most professional painting company in Northern and Western Maryland. Our office is located in Clarksburg Maryland, and we service Howard, Frederick and Montgomery County. If you have a painting project of any size, Email our Estimator, David Chism!

Hallco’s Chicken Tortilla Soup Recipe

0508p200c-tortilla_chix-l1The recipe below is found in our customer Summer Newsletter for 2009. It is delicious!

Mexican Chicken & Rice Soup

  • 4 corn tortillas
  • ½ cup canola oil (I like using some baked or regular corn chips instead of frying tortillas, cuz they're not so greasy)
  • 1 T. butter
  • ½ cup chopped yellow onion
  • 1 ½ T. chopped jalapeno
  • 1 ½ cups chopped Roma tomatoes (sometimes I just add in a little can tom. sauce instead since David doesn't like tom.s)
  • ½ cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 t. diced garlic
  • 6 cups chicken broth (I just boil my chicken and use the broth with some extra bullion)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 6oz. box Uncle Ben's Mexican Fiesta Rice (I substitute ¾ cup white rice and ½ T. taco seasoning)
  • 1 cup chopped cooked white chicken meat
  • ½ cup grated cheddar cheese

Cooking Instructions:

Cut tortillas in ¼" strips and sauté in heated oil until crunchy. (I like just using tortilla chips better) Drain and set aside. In a soup pot melt butter and sauté onion, jalapeno, tomatoes, cilantro, and garlic until the tomatoes are soft. Add the chicken broth and bay leaf and bring to boil. Add rice and seasonings. Boil until rice is tender, about 15 minutes. Reduce heat. Add chicken and simmer 15". Add more broth if rice absorbs too much liquid. Ladle soup into bowls and top with tortilla strips or chips and cheese. Makes 4 servings. The recipe comments this recipe is a great way to use leftover grilled chicken.

Is Faux Finishing The “in” Thing?

faux-finish-sampleOn a number of estimate calls we have received, homeowners ask us if faux finishing is still in style. Some of them are looking at having faux applied to their walls and others already have it and wonder if they should keep it.

So, is faux finishing still the "in" thing? The answer really is quite simple: "it depends!" We wish we could have a yes or no answer for this question but it really is a "it depends" answer.

In short, the basic faux finishes typically called names such as "sponging," "parchment," "colorwash" "ragging" and "rag-roll" would be considered a little dated in todays market. These finishes were very popular in the 1990's. However, there still is a place for the simple fauxs you are use to seeing if your decor invites this style. For example, if you have an Italian Villa or an "old world" style home, faux is still probably a good option.

What we have seen is homeowners getting a little more creative with "faux" finishes. Folks are hiring professional designers and artist to design and paint murals and custom Trompe l'oeil effects instead of just a two-color glaze over an entire room. Also, the old faux of the '90s can still look good in your home but typically looks best in smaller areas: like a powder room or breakfast nook.

If you are looking for a new look in your home, don't completely toss faux finishes out the door thinking they are old-fashion. We would suggest working with a professional designer and/or paint company to give you a professional opinion on what will work for you and your taste.

By the way, we love color and design. If you are not currently working with a designer or contractor, give us a call or send us an email. We would love to help!

What is the Best Search Engine?

Search Engines are popping up all the time. There are hundreds of them on the market. For those of you who do not know what a search engine is, the big players are: Google, Yahoo, MSN & AOL. They provide search results for what you are looking for, like finding a local painting contractor!

The number #1 search engine on the market today is Google. Google's popularity fluctuates a little, but since 2006, it has over 60% of web users. The second and third most popular sites and search engines are Yahoo! #2 and MSN #3.

Now, here is the reason we suggest to use Google as your main search engine and NOT Yahoo! & MSN. Google also has the best search engine results. It is more geared towards keywords. So, if you searching for "Painters in Frederick" it will search those keywords and see which sites have those words in their website. Google look for other things besides just those words, but the key is that your results will be very targeted to what you are looking for!

We would suggest that you consider switching from Yahoo!, MSN, or another Search Engine to using Google. Yahoo!, for example, is perhaps the worst for finding the right information. It is not very targeted to your needs and can play favoritism.

Finally, you probably would not know that the above information was true as a consumer unless you loved web marketing and research! Just take our word for it and know that if you want to find the right information, Google will do the job. If you don't believe us, try it for yourself.

Hallco’s House Painting in Gaithersburg and Ellicott City

Most of Maryland and Washington DC received a fair amount of rain the past week and a half, which drove us painters indoors. We were very blessed to be able to find cover with at least three wonderful interior painting projects.

The first project took place in Gaithersburg, near Kentlands. The Hill family asked Hallco if we could paint the majority of their interior in a very short amount of time because they had guest arriving. Our paint crew was ready for the task and did a beautiful job transforming their home in just three full days. The project involved stripping wallpaper in several rooms, texturing the necessary walls and apply two coats of Sherwin-Williams Harmony, the most environmentally-friendly paint available by Sherwin Williams Paint Companym all the walls, ceilings doors, windows and baseboards.

The second project took place in the Kentlands, where we added four unique colors to four rooms of a Kentland's row home. We finished this week with an interior project in Ellicott City, painting the living room, stairwell, the master bedroom and guest room. Hallco changed the colors of the home with Sherwin-Williams Harmony paints again and freshened up their woodwork as well.

One question that was brought up during one of our jobs was, "Do we do exterior painting too?" The answer is, "Absolutely!" We love to paint job about anything. So, if you are in need of a professional paint contractor in the Frederick, Montgomery or Howard County areas, please keep Hallco Enterprises in mind. We would love to earn your trust.
