Should You Paint or Carpet First?

A very common painting question we get asked is, "Should you paint or carpet first?" The answer is quite simple: it depends on whom you hire to do your painting. If you select a higher-end paint company who has a good reputation, chances are it will be fine to paint after the carpet is installed. This can be done because the painting contractor will be extra careful in covering the carpet with the proper type of plastic, paper and clean interior drop cloths. (Side note: Notice I said "interior drop cloths!" Believe me, a lot of painters don't know the different and will use a dirty exterior cloth to cover your carpet.)

If you are concerned about your carpet, by all means, paint before the carpet is installed. It really is quite a normal practice. The only downside is that the painter may have to come back after the carpet is installed to touch up or repaint your baseboards and repaint a few scuff marks on the walls that sometimes appear from the carpet installers tool belt.

Interior Painting in Urbana MD

Hallco Enterprises recently began another large painting project at a well known government building located in Urbana, Maryland. We were hired to repaint many of the hallways with a low-odor, green friendly paint. We ended up using an easy to clean product from Sherwin Williams. Christmas Lighting at the Fisher House

Christmas Decor and Christmas Decor by Hallco recently partnered together to install a beautiful lighting display at the 2 Fisher Houses in Washington D.C. Christmas Decor corporate donated most of the supplies while Christmas Decor by Hallco donated all the labor and extra equipment.

Christmas Lights In The Snow

All of us at Christmas Decor by Hallco want to thank all of our lighting customers for another great season. We ended up with close to 50 displays this year in cities such as Gaithersburg, Potomac, Poolesville and Rockville and Columbia, Ellicott City and Highland. Well, there is good news and bad news about my Christmas decorations.

The good news is that I truly outdid myself this year. The bad news is that I had to take them down after only two days. I had more people come screaming up to my house than ever. Great stories. But two things made me take it down. First, the cops advised me that it would cause traffic accidents as they almost wrecked when they drove by. Second, a 55 year old lady grabbed the ladder and almost killed herself putting it against my house and didn't realize it was fake until she climbed to the top (she was not happy). She was one of many people who attempted to do that. My yard couldn't take it either. I have more than a few tire tracks where people literally drove up my yard.

I think I made him too real this time . But it was fun while it lasted.

Christmas Decor and The Fisher House

The holiday season is a festive and fun time for most Americans. It is also a hard time for families who have loved ones in harm's way. The United States Armed Forces are protecting the American people as we enjoy this holiday season. Many of our Service men and women will be spending their time in a foreign country or at a VA hospital due to injury or sickness. This is where the Fisher House Foundation has stepped in to help. They have been providing completely free housing to military families since 1990. Families of men and women in the military can be close to their son or daughter while they stay at a VA hospital by living in a "Fisher House." Every VA hospital in the United States has at least 1 Fisher House. Currently, the Fisher House serves more than 10,000 military families and has over 3 million days of lodging!

This year, Christmas Decor by Hallco is excited to participate in decorating two of the Fisher Houses located next to the Walter Reed Medical Center, in Washington D.C. We will be providing all of the lighting, decorations and labor to help cheer up our military families in our area. Last year, the Walter Reed Medical Center was trying to work with a company to decorate their medical center for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but because of budget constraints, they were not able to pull it off. Christmas Lights at Highland Crossing

Tomorrow, November 17th, Christmas Decor by Hallco will begin the installation of several thousand, energy-efficient LED lights at the Highland Crossing shopping center. This is the first year Highland Crossing has had Christmas Decor assist in their decorating for Christmas, and they are very excited. Highland Crossing is located just a few miles west of Clarksville, Maryland off of 108.

We will be lighting up the roof-tops of all 6 of their buildings, so stop by and take a look! The LED C-9 bulbs we are using use only 15% of the electricity that your typical non-LED lights do.
