The Woodmoor Christmas Tree in Silver Spring

Christmas Decor by Hallco just wrapped up their 3rd year lighting the Woodmoor Christmas Tree in Silver Spring. This tree is 82 feet tall and has over 3,200 LED C-9 bulbs. C-9 lights are quite a bit larger than mini lights but give the tree a very full look. Christmas Decor by Hallco recommended to the community of Four Corners to use LED bulbs instead of incandescent thereby saving over 80% on electricity and getting a longer life out of the bulbs. Hanging Lights Before Thanksgiving

Just a quick reminder that it is okay to hang Christmas lights before Thanksgiving. In fact, you'll save money if you schedule your work before the big day! Most of our clients want their lights installed the week of or right after Thanksgiving which makes our schedule very tight for that week/week and a half. We have already installed a few lighting displays around Maryland for customers planning ahead and you can be part of this group!

If you do not wish to be all festive before Thanksgiving, you can still save big, have us do the install and then decide to turn on the lights when you are ready! All of our displays are on digital timers: so you don't have to do a thing once you plug them in for the season! Or if you wish, we can install the lights first and the Christmas decorations: Santas, Reindeer, Wreaths, Bows and Garland after Thanksgiving. It is completely up to you!

My Husband Likes to Hang our Lights

Does your husband really LIKE hanging Christmas lights every year? Does he enjoy replacing burned out bulbs and untangling wires and using up a month of Saturdays to decorate your home? Does he love repelling off the roof top to center your wreath just right? So the question really is, "Does he like hanging lights or does he just think it is the manly thing to do?" Should I Do Lights or Daytime Decor for My Business?

If you own or manage a business center, shopping mall, office complex or other commercial property, you should consider the benefits of both holiday lights and daytime decor.

Highlighting your center with lights at night will cause increase awareness of your location. It is a given fact that Christmas lighting attracts shoppers and causes people to slow down when they are driving by to have a closer look. We recently priced a number of commercial property jobs for one client who decided against all the lighting options we presented and wanted only daytime decor. The cost depends completely on you! Most of our clients spend a minimum of $2,800 the first year, but if that is not in the budget, you can get a beautiful lit wreath and a few lights hung for $500-800. We have some customers who enjoy lighting up their roof, fascia, trees, ground and finishing it off with daytime decor. These clients will typically spend over $4,500.

So keep in mind what you would like to spend but with an open mind. We think you'll find our service, quality, products and creativity to be well worth the cost!

Stress Relieving Tip by Real Simple Magazine

The October issue of Real Simple Magazine had an article about dealing with stress. They wrote out a 14 day stress relieving plan that made a lot of sense. The one that stuck out to me was the Tuesday of the second week. It said, "Turn off the TV." Real simple continues, "Constant bombardment by news can make you feel anxious when you're already keyed up, and a blaring TV hits you with both visual and aural stimulation." (p. 166, October 2008, Real Simple). Watching or listening to too much news and TV during the elections and the way our economy currently is can create a lot of stress and anxiety. It also causes you not to want to spend money or do the proper home maintenance items or put up Christmas decorations!

My suggestion is to turn off the TV for a little while and do something fun! Go read a book! Play a round of golf! Call up an old friend! Tree Lighting

Tree lighting can be very tricky! If it is not done properly, people will know it was cheap and completed by an amateur. The key to proper tree lighting is having more lights than you think! A tree should be well lit and not look light a broken spider web or a grenade hit it when it is complete.

How can you tell if a tree is well lit or decorated the right way? When someone taps you on the shoulder and says, "Didn't you know it is rude to stare?"

Professional tree lighting that creates stop and go traffic by your home or office can only be accomplished by seasoned and trained professional Christmas light hangers, unless you are related to De Vinci! But it might take even a talented person a few weekends to get it right!

There are three types of Tree Lightings a professional can perform here at Christmas Decor by Hallco:

1. Trunk Wraps: We start at the bottom, wrap it nice and tight and up into a few low branches. This is a perfect option for larger trees that would typically be too expensive to light the entire tree.
2. Trunk & Branch Wrap: We do tight trunk wrap and then we run the lighting up through most of the branches to the very tips. This is done for most trees that loose their leaves.
3. Canopy Wrap: Are for trees that do not loose their leaves. We carefully wrap the lights in and around the leaves and branches from the top, the outer sections and even the middle of the tree to create a very full lighting display! This type of wrap can lend itself well to several different types of lighting options such as large bulbs, multi color, a mixture of large and mini bulbs or all minis!

The Benefits of Christmas Lighting for Commercial Properties

I recently was talking to a property manager about doing some Christmas displays on one of her properties in Howard County and was delighted to hear the following complaint! Lisa total me that she had received several complaints from her tenants from other properties because their store fronts were not decorated for the holidays! This property manager new the benefit of lighting and decorating for Christmas and was ready to make sure she did not get a complain again!

There are many benefits for a business to decorate for Christmas. Probably the two biggest reasons every commercial property should decorate for the holidays is 1) Your employees and tenants will be happy! 2) It will increase awareness to the public therefore increasing sales.

How Much Does Christmas Light Hanging Services Cost in Maryland?

One of the questions we get asked a lot when doing Christmas Lighting & Decorating estimates is: "Does it cost a lot to hang my lights?" This is a very reasonable question that has a very simple answer!

Christmas Decor by Hallco prices everything a la carte. Sometimes our designers will lump a few items together such as Holly shrubs or two small spruce trees if they must be lit together to be symmetrical. Our designers typically will spend some time studying your property and then share their ideas with you about what they think will look good. If your budget is small and you only wish to have your fascia lit and a wreath around your front door, we can do it. We are a service company, which is why we have decided to price things a la carte. You get to be the final judge on what you wish to spend and they way you want your home to look. Either way, we are here to service your lighting and decorating needs.
