Cost to Decorate a Large Blue Spruce Tree in DC area

We frequently receive calls and emails to decorate large evergreen trees. Why not? They look fantastic when lit up with lots of lights. The main question we get asked is, "How much will it cost to light up a big evergreen tree? Most evergreens in the Maryland and DC area we've seen are Blue Spruce trees that are typically over 30 feet tall. To light up a 30+ foot spruce, you will need the proper equipment, including a boom lift. Then you'll need commercial LED lights, which are expensive (over $1 a piece) but last a few seasons. You will then need enough electrical juice, timers and commercial extension cords.

When Christmas Decor by Hallco lights up a large evergreen, we will typically estimate 800+ or - large C-9 LED bulbs. This will make the tree nice and full. We don't recommend the mini lights. (NOTE: If it is a medium size tree, 10-20 feet, you can mix minis and C-9s). If Christmas Decor decorates this size of a tree, we offer 3 year pricing as it is too costly to put them up and remove them each season. We leave the lights up for 3 seasons. Each season we'll come out and replace any bad strands of lights or bulbs, including extension cords. Sometimes, squirrels have been known to nibble away at wires. So the setup and time each year is manditory. So what does it cost? It all depends again on how tall the tree is, total lights and signing up for three years. To give you an idea, customers will spend around $2,300-2,800 a year + or -. Most of this is labor although the first year is primarily material cost.

If you live in Gaithersburg, Germantown, Rockville, Bethesda, Chevy Chase or around the 270 or 70, please call us at 1-888-95-DECOR or send us a picture of what your tree looks like.

Christmas Lighting Services in DC, Why Hire a Professional?

Now that Halloween is over, we have Thanksgiving to look forward to. Many Maryland and DC homeowners begin preparing for Christmas lights at the same time as they are preparing for Thanksgiving. Now is the time to plan ahead and save. Yet, one might ask, why should I hire a professional lighting company? I'll provide a short answer to why our customers hire us.

Our customers hire us because they love the holiday season. They are typically too busy to do the decorating themselves, so they count on Christmas Decor by Hallco to do a quality job, in time for the holidays. It is really no different than why people hire a professional painter to paint a home or a remodeler to redo a kitchen. A professional is skilled in his or her profession. The more he does it, the better he gets! Christmas light hanging is not all that easy to do if you want the display to look outstanding. It requires many hours of light hanging to become a lighting professional. Our displays look a lot more clean and uniformed. We have a lighting design system in place, so our installers know how our company installs lights (the same way every time). I can drive around neighborhoods and point out a professional display in no time.

Can you hire just anyone to install your lights? Of course! You can probably find it for cheap too. Yet our company carries all the proper insurance and worker's compensation. Our employees are just that: they work for us year round. Our lighting installers are used to climbing up and down ladders and walking on roofs. When you hire a non professional, you'll need to be extra careful that the person (or company) doesn't hold you responsible for any injuries. It can happen to any of us.

This year we've made it easier for you to get an idea of the cost for lighting your home. Check out our 3 starting packages (of course we can always add more too).  Call us to schedule your lighting design estimate: 888-95-DECOR and check out our Gallery

Christmas Lighting in DC and A Little Humor

Why should someone hire a professional Christmas decorating company in Maryland or DC? Maybe it is because you don't have a lot of time. The DC metro area is a major commuting part of America, so time is definitely one of the top reasons people hire a company like us. Yet probably the number one reason our clients hire Christmas Decor for their lighting project is because it is a hassle to hang Christmas lights. I had one client a few years ago who told me (before signing up) that in past years, he'd start over with a fresh new set of lights. Why? Because when he'd go to pull out the previous year's lights, they'd be all tangled up. He was so frustrated with how much time and headache each year he turned everything over to us.

Oh and the other reason people hire a professional lighting company is because our displays simply look stunning! Check out our gallery to see what I mean: Christmas Decor Gallery or save a step and call for your Design Consult 888-95-DECOR

Take a look at this fantastic video our PA Christmas Decor friends put together. This is why people hire us:

Christmas Lighting Services in Gaithersburg

Holiday Lighting Services in Gaithersburg, MD

Christmas Decor by Hallco provides complete holiday lighting services to the communities in Gaithersburg and the greater DC areas. Our office is located in Clarksburg, so we service the Gaithersburg area often during the Christmas season. If you are tired of hanging lights yourself, too busy or just want a very professional and elegant design, check out our portfolio and schedule a free design consultation today. We typically begin estimating and selling Christmas Lights in Mid September and sometimes sell a few lighting jobs the week before Christmas. We do everything: design, install, service the lights, removal and store the equipment.

Typical Cost of Lights

The one question we get asked the most is, "How much does it cost?" A fair question. We have nothing to hide. The answer depends on how excited you get about Christmas and the size of your holiday budget: but of course! Lets just say that the average Maryland client really loves Christmas and spends an average of about $2,500 on their displays. We have customers who do a very simple display: garland around their front door and some lights on their gutters and gables. This might cost $1,200-1,600. Then we have customers who love lighting their trees and shrubs as well and spend a bit more than $2,500. The reason the cost is more than your thinking (and we know it is) has to do with the following. First our company does everything and you do nothing. We will also be making a minimum of 4 trips out to your home during the season. So you are definitely paying for our professional staff to maintain your lighting display. The cost is in the design, the install, servicing and the removal. If a couple bulbs go out, we come out and replace at no charge. Why? Because you are renting our displays. We own and service the lights. In a sense, it is like hiring an event company that sets up chairs, tables and tents for a special event.

The house pictured in this blog post cost was a little over $2,000. Doesn't it look amazing? The cost would have been less if they did not put up our commercial-grade garland and wreaths. If you've never hired a professional lighting company, I'd definitely recommend starting with at least lighting up your roof line and gables. It is more affordable and really makes your home stand out. I'd also recommend that if you have a mature Crape Murtle, Japanese Maple or Cherry Tree, to light it up. 800-1200 lights.

Christmas Lights in Silver Spring | Christmas Decor by Hallco

Here is an article written this week about the 80 foot Christmas tree we decorate for the Woodmoor Pinecrest community, in Silver Spring. This explains more about the cost to install lights, why we do what we do, and why our customers hire us to decorate their homes and communities with lights. This quote in the article said it best, "Most of the installs we do are not over the top. They are nice, classy, clean installations."  Anyone can hang Christmas lights, but Christmas Decor by Hallco does it the best.

Christmas Lighting December 2010 Update

It has been over two weeks since we wrote our last blog! The only excuse for not updating our blog is we've gotten so many excited emails and phone calls for Marylanders wanting Christmas Lights. We've been running all over town estimating and installing lighting displays! This year is busier than every! We still have room to fit in your project. RIght now we are scheduling for next week, December 7th.

One quick question we wanted to address: "Why is it so expensive to hang lights?" Some folks are quite shocked when they get an estimate to have a professional lighting display. This is really a great question! One way to answer this is simple, we do everything and you do absolutely nothing. Also on our tree lighting, we typically install 2 to 3 times the amount of lights that most homeowners do themselves. Take a look at the two photos on this blog. This shows you the difference in the overall displays we create. Our displays are clean, classic and elegant. Finally, if you've ever purchased highly quality wreaths from well-known online holiday decorating companies, our pricing really is not much more in price, because we include the install, service and removal.

In the end, you get what you pay for! Most of our clients sign up each year! If you love Christmas Lights but do not have the time to do it, please call us (888-95-DECOR) or send us an email.

Christmas Light Rope in Maryland and Why We Don’t Recommend It

Christmas light rope and icicle lighting are perhaps the two most popular types of Christmas lights known by homeowners. Why are rope lights so sought after and popular? We think it is because the prices are reasonable and the product is easy to install relative to many types of Christmas decor. In other words, it won't tangle up as much as regular christmas lights. But why do we, Christmas Decor not recommend using Rope lighting? To be honest, it just doesn't look as good as regular lights do when installed correctly. Rope lighting is supposed to be "bullet-proof" Christmas decor meaning you can leave it up for several years, hidden from "harsh" storms we have in Maryland. Yet, we've only seen rope lighting hanging from the gutters and changing colors from clear to a yellowish color. The plastic just doesn't last well on the east coast.

So what do we recommend for Christmas decor? If you do it yourself, you should buy gutter and shingle clips and stay away from Rope Lighting. Use C-9 Bulbs, preferably LED. By using C-9 Bulbs and Clips, your Christmas decor display will look cleaner and visually appealing to you and your neighbors. We hope this helps. If you have a question about Christmas lights, let us know. If you don't want to do it yourself and want a Christmas decor contractor, that is what we do!
